Google + Social Network is already the second attempt the Internet giant to establish their own social network. Even if Google has good reasons to try it once more against Facebook.
Major had to announce Google on 9 February 2010 at a press conference in Mountain View headquarters. With Google buzz, Google’s E-Mail mailbox should become the central point of the Internet. No matter whether emails, chats, photos and videos – everything may be shared with friends on Google buzz. Now, the search engine dares a second attempt in social networks for good reasons: recommendations from friends are regarded as one the key for the search engine business of the future. Because where search engine optimizers with ever more sophisticated methods try to outsmart machines, the recommendations of real people count more and more.
Google wants to make social search
In particular, the linking of data from social networks and search engine, individually tailored results are possible. Link recommendations from trusted friends is not junk. What the user already have recommended to friends, could be interested as well. Little reveals more about interests and preferences – and thus the desired search results – as the personal network.
In a clever move Microsoft took 1.6 percent of Facebook – for just $240 million 2007. Therefore, Microsoft’s engine Bing has so far exclusive access to the data of the world’s largest social network, while Google put on a partnership with the always significant looser online network as MySpace. Google is threatening with social recommendations to lose connection – and controls against for some time. Recently, Google integrated directly in the search for the first time test basis recommendations of search results. The + 1-button that works similarly to the “Like” of Facebook is a part of Google +.
“URS Quake” led to the development of Google +
An internal memo of Google Manager URS Hölzle is regarded as a trigger for Google’s attack on Facebook. The memo referred to internally as “URS quake”, warned in March 2010 that Google would lose the connection in social networks.
But obviously the Group has learned from the failure of Google buzz: Unlike buzz Google + more gently and quietly announced – by a press release, not on a large scale press conference. And Google + offers a real advantage over Facebook: not everyone is as friend treated the same, instead, is it different categories (“circles”), which you can – share different information with or not just. Thus Google will display better real life, where not every information is automatically shared with each friend.
