U.S. Wants More Than Any No-Fly Zone

When the Security Council of the UN is again providing for sanctions against Gaddafi. All eyes are on the veto power of China and Russia. In Libya, the war rages on.

Libya No-Fly Zone

The West increased its pressure on the Security Council, military action to protect the civilian population in Libya to authorize. “If you win the Gaddafi, which sends a clear message that violence pays,” said NATO Secretary General, Anders Fogh Rasmussen on his Facebook page. Gadhafis approach also called a “crime against humanity.”

From the lunch meeting of the Security Council of UN on the issue of Libya and wanted to announce a decision today. Diplomats said that France is convinced that a no-fly zone be imposed. Foreign Minister Alain Juppe specially flew to New York to plead before the UN organization for military action. France had submitted, along with Britain and Lebanon, a draft resolution, said the Foreign Ministry in Paris. The text contained in an extension of sanctions and “all necessary means” to stop the offensive of the troops of Gaddafi.

U.S. also been implemented following the events in Libya, a change of heart and now military action into consideration, “including an air exclusion zone and go maybe this” as the U.S. ambassador to the UN, Susan Rice. In addition, the Federal Department of Defense is considered a no-fly zone would be sufficient. The real question is whether a no-fly zone would be the last step or the “first stage” of a broader international intervention, said Air Force Chief of Norton Schwartz. For the preparation of an air exclusion zone the need for the U.S. Air Force “At least a week.”

Italy, the former colonial power in Libya also said Thursday the first agreement, but Germany still rejects any military action. The Federal Republic, like other non-permanent Security Council members skeptical that India and South Africa will participate in a military conflict.

Work plans of NATO seems finished. To pass a resolution in the Security Council must agree to nine of the fifteen members. The permanent members can veto also – if China and Russia make use of its right, remained open until the evening. Russia had agreed in January 2010 with Libyan arms shipments valued at four billion dollars, a business that is not yet resolved. China was before the uprising, more than 30,000 active workers in Libya. The Chinese built by Gadhafis for a new rail line along the coast and several large apartment blocks with a total value of over ten billion dollars.

The leaders of Libya threatened in the event of military intervention by foreign countries with attacks on aviation and maritime transport in the Mediterranean. “Any foreign military action against Libya in the air and maritime threats in the Mediterranean,” said a Defense Ministry spokesman in Libya, according to state news agency Jana. Each “moving part”, whether civilian or military origin, and then head to a “counter-Libya” to be.

As the spokesman for the rebels, Mustafa Gheriani said Gadhafis warplanes bombed the airport on the morning of Benghazi, and adjacent residential areas. The number of victims in the afternoon there was no reliable information. But otherwise the situation was quiet.

Gaddafi announced overnight in an offensive by government forces in Benghazi. Those who lay down their arms would be saved, Gaddafi of Libya, said in a televised message audio. State television earlier reported that the army had won the “decisive battle” on Misrata third largest city in Libya and was “on the outskirts of Benghazi.

Gheriani Rebel spokesman described the news of the immediate arrival of government forces as “lying propaganda.” He said opponents of one of the deployed fighter aircraft have shot down Benghazi. The strategic importance of the city Adschabija, the last village before Benghazi, if still in the hands of their own fighters. During the fighting the previous day, but had “a number of civilians” were killed.

For the Security Council called Gheriani to finally establish a no-fly zone, as well as tanks and artillery to bomb Gadhafis. “What are you waiting for – Gaddafi makes war against its own people,” he said. Residents are exposed to the dictator’s weapons completely helpless, “It’s like skeet shooting.

Meanwhile, aid agencies prepare for the Libyan-Egyptian border to a massive influx of refugees. In recent days, many cars with families of Tobruk, Benghazi and Al-Baida had reached the border to Egyptian territory to safety. Some 3,000 African camp near the border station, most of them are undocumented. However, there may continue to travel to Egypt, including Cairo, because he suspects including former mercenary Gaddafis. The International Red Cross and Doctors Without Borders have withdrawn their staff in the last days of Benghazi.
